THE PRACTICE RANGE

Pressurize Practice

  • Peaks and Valleys
  • use situations to bring pressure
  • Can’t react to the last shot with the next swing
  • How many good shots in a row? How many fat?
  • How many shots crossed the target?
  • PATH a given based on right arm angle and weight shift
  • Practice swing is rehearsal of coming shot
  • Switch clubs each shot
  • Simulate playing golf

Ball Hitting Drills

  • Search out weaknesses
  • High & Low ball flight
  • 1/2 & 3/4 Swing Drills
  • Patient Eyes – Look at the ground for practice swings
  • Hit balls looking at the ground – INSTINCT FOR IMPACT
  • Rotate Driver & 9 Iron
  • Search for swing that feels and works the same for all clubs

Faults & Fixes

  • “What makes me do that?”
  • Position you adopted at address
  • Coming over the top
  • Hit the bottom of the table
  • Can’t trust swing if alignment is bad
  • DON’T GIVE PATH AWAY TRYING TO TURN THE FACE OVER
  • Shank – Cure: Put weight on heels and ball on toe – work on path
  • Handle always goes forward
  • Posture – Fat & Thin shots
  • Limit elevation change
  • Right side of body is DOWN side of swing – Fat Shots
  • Left side is UP side of swing – Thin shots
  • Reading the clubface – Ball marks moving from heel to toe
  • Balance point moving from heel to toe

Alignment

  • Move feet while looking at the target
  • Aim FACE OF CLUB, the FEET, then SHOULDERS
  • Square shoulders: Buttons on shirt face right of ball
  • Swing for path – De-emphasize impact
